THE KINGDOM OF STEFAN NEMANJA AND THE FIRST-
CROWNED “WHO GREW UP FROM THE BREASTS OF THE
ONES WHO RULED THE SERBIAN COUNTRY” AND “THE FIRST
KINGDOM FROM THE VERY BEGINNING”
Abstract: The oldest elements of statehood and the name of Serbia, the Serbs
bring from their old settlement and soon after their settling in, in the first half of VII
century, they became independent under the reign of their dukes. They fell down
again under the reign of Byzantine, at the time of Tzar Vasilije I, 867-886, when
they definitely baptized. As independent, they received the king crowns twice from
the Roman Popes. The first one was given to Mihajlo Vojislavljevic, around 1077,
and the second one to Stefan Nemanja II the First-Crowned, in 1217. By analyzing
the family relations of the royal family of Vojislavljevic and their ancestor, a great
prefect Stefan Nemanja (I), the father (Stefan Vukan II) and grandfather (a prefect
Marko), there is a justification in claiming of the sources “that he grew up from
the breasts of the ones who ruled the Serbian country” and based on his blood
and family, he established the rights of a ruler over the Serbian countries. Based
on the same hereditary law, Serbia was also ruled by older sons of Stefan Vukan II
˗ Primislav and Belus, and also the descendents of the older son of Raska perfect
Marko, a great perfect (Nemanja) Uros I, (Nemanja) Uros II and Desa (Desimir)
and Tihomir.
Key words: duke Viseslav, Stefan Vojislav, king Mihajlo, king Bodin, a great
perfect Stefan Vukan II, a great perfect Stefan Nemanja, king Stefan Nemanja II the
First-Crowned.
