                        IRON ROAD TO SOCIALISM: CONSTRUCTION
                          OF RAILWAY LINE NOVI PAZAR — RAŠKA

                      Decision about construction of railway line Novi Pazar — Raška was
               brought in 1949. Railway line was constructed during 1950 and in 1951 was bro-
               ught decision about stopping works. In the text are researched conditions which
               brought to decision about construction in this way to decision about stopping con-
               struction. It is recognizable significant of railway as a symbol of modern society
               that was brought to connection with socialistic ideology of constructing of natio-
               nal state. By construction of railway and excelling of it s significant of socialistic
               society clearly were expressed its modernistic aspirations. These aspirations were
               not only imitation of capitalistic model but aspiration to articulate different, ide-
               ological and political economical view on the world which was actually finishing
               capitalistic developing stream, overgrowing from socialistic into capitalistic state.
                      This special relation analyses on the passing project of realization of rai-
               lway line Raška -Novi Pazar in which is possible to notice basic models of soci-
               alistic construction, and their specifics and imperfections. It is possible to conc-
               lude that railway line Raška — Novi Pazar started in 1949–1951 as a project of
               modernization, stood unfinished exactly from the same reason. Namely, state firm
               of the Yugoslav railway in 1964 brought program of modernization which appre-
               hension massively cancelling of the short and unpaid railway lines. Research and
               problematic of construction of railway line Raška — Novi Pazar from period of
               1949–1951 are significant for temporary development of Novi Pazar because that
               in the beginning of the 21  century project of railway line Raška — Novi Pazar

               renewed. A new project clearly refers to inheritance of earlier plan of constructi-
               on. Realization of this project was planned for old passed 2007. Still, railway line
               Raška — Novi Pazar become infallible part of regional developing planes in the
               first and in the second decade of the 21  century.
