THE POPULAR TERMS FOR »DISEASE«
ON TERRITORY OF NOVI PAZAR, SJENICA AND TUTIN

The acute spotted typhus is a bad disease to which, with good reason, our
scientific medicine attributed big importance. The author discovers that for the ter-
ritory of the former SFRJ in domestic histories and encyclopedias there is no da-
tum when the doctors established existence of the spotted typhus. The doctors of
this area accepted that the spotted typhus ineradicable from times immemorial in
Bosnia and Herzegovina, while even today it is considered that in Serbia at the be-
ginning of the 20th century were individual incidents of this illness without noticed
focus. The purpose of exploration is to strengthen since when and how the spotted
typhus was noticed among population, and did its endemic »focuses« possibly ex-
ist before 1912 and on which territory. Further we considered that it is necessary to
know did population have term for the spotted typhus, to be used for strengthen its
earlier existence among the population of the newly examined territory. The term
»disease« is unsatisfactory explored, especially its medical aspect. In »historical«
and »linguistic« researches of term »disease« were used serology results of exami-
nations of prevalent of the spotted typhus: our, newer; and the other researcher
witch was earlier performed. We used test by question, which is a method and in-
strument. It is realized »intended sample«, for an instance quota or expert samples,
which is considered better than accidental to find the truth on the higher level. With
a new step a new argument is attributed, the bigger valence of verity, as for exam-
ple, statement was controlled by sight in registers of the deceased. The spotted ty-
phus, also in our country, at first deserted cities, retreated from rich classes; than
disappeared from poor quarters, shortly retained in richer villages, while for the
longest it was, but not so long ago, in passive mountain rural environment. The po-
pular term »disease« is a synonym for the typhus and it is related to the abdominal
as much as to the spotted typhus. With retrograde approach, importance of previo-
us knowledge about term disease and its synonyms, besides all, further endemic
nature of this disease will be established with comprehend in much older docu-
mentation (as for example in the Archives of Serbia).
