THE NOVI PAZAR’S MEMBERS OF D@EMIJET PARTY

The one of new-formed political parties in a period between wars is the
party of the Muslims from Macedonia, Kosovo, Metohija and Sanjak-D`emijet.

On December 17 , 1919, the establishment’s congress of D`emijet A}if Had`iah-
metovi} Bljuta from Novi Pazar was elected for organizations secretary.
In 1920, the impact strength of this organization for municipal elections in
Novi Pazar’s district was teacher Muhamed Tanovi} from Sanjak.On election for a
constitutional parliament, in Zve~an’s-Ra{ka’s election district Mehmed Alija

Mahmutovi} was elected as a deputy on November 28 , 1920, as one of eight D`e-
mijet’s representatives. Trough its deputies D`emijet pleaded to solve agrarian qu-
estion.

The new congress of D`emijet started on January 22 , 1923 in Skoplje and
in the head committee got in as one of three members Nuredin from Novi Pazar.

On March 18 , 1923, on parliamentary elections D`emijet accomplished
the greatest success in its short existence. With 14 deputies it did not appertain in a
line of small parties, and from Novi Pazar A}if Had`iahmetovi} Bljuta was elec-

ted. On December 6 , 1923, as a member of the financial committee A}if Bljuta
blunted on political scene against government. He condemned government for oc-
currences in Kosovska Mitrovica and \akovica in time of municipal elections
(August, 1923.) and he demanded punishment for culprits of bloodshed. If even
the second deputy of D`emijet was present (]amil-beg Ja{arevi}) budget could not
be vote and minister had to resign.

On February 8 , 1925, candidate in elections for De`eva and Sjenica’s dis-
trict was A}if Had`iahmetovi} Bljuta. From Novi Pazar’s members of D`emijet
party in a line of candidates got in district’s mufti Mehmed Alija. An impact in
D`emijet lines was done at the end of 1924 and at the beginning of 1925, towards
two, the most important, persons Ferhad Draga and A}if Bljuta.

On February 8 , 1925 the election results of D`emijet were not published. It
is known that Ferhat Draga had enough votes for his mandate, like as some other
candidates. It is not known did Bljuta was among them.
D`emijet was not national party because the Muslims in it s structure belon-
ged to the Turks, Albanians and the Muslims from Sanjak. Relations between the
Turks and the Albanians were 1 : 3, until Sanjak’s had inferior role, and on electi-
ons in 1923 they started to gravitate towards Bosnian YMO.
