THE POSSIBILITY OF ORGANIZING ORTHODOX
RELIGIOUS TOURISM IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF NOVI PAZAR

Abstract: The connection between Orthodox religion and tourism becomes
clearer and more expressive by the time, through increased interest of visitors
for sacral structures and their unlimited spiritual, but also historical-cultural
valorization, is seen in the increased importance and improvement of religious
tourism. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize onto the role and importance of
religious and cultural tourism of the municipality of Novi Pazar, and also onto the
fact that the Orthodox sacral structures in this municipality have a huge spiritual
value for the Serbian people, and also for other Orthodox believers, and also for the
other, numerous tourists who are attracted by the priceless middle century cultural
heritage. Cultural, material and non-material heritage have a huge potential for the
economic and social development of the entire Republic of Serbia, and especially of
the municipality of Novi Pazar.
