DIPLOMATIC MISSION OF NOEL BUXTON
IN DISINTEGRATION OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE AND
HIS VISIT TO NOVI PAZAR IN 1899
Abstract: The paper shall try to illustrate the personality and views of
Noel Buxton, a British politician, minister in the Great Britain Government,
philanthropist, and an establisher of the Balkan Committee. His approach to the
reform and deosmanisation of the Ottoman Empire, his reaction onto the Young
Turkish Revolution and World War I, his publications, shall be under the magnifying
glass of this paper. The paper presents his significant contribution to the history
of Novi Pazar through his oldest known photographs that Noel Buxton recorded
during his short staying in the Sanjak of Novi Pazar in 1899, through his travelling
via the European part of the Ottoman Empire, as a prominent member of the Royal
British Geographic Society.
