THE OTTOMAN TEXTILE IN THE SERBIAN PANTING OF XVI
AND XVII CENTURY:
ON GOLDEN SAKKOS OF THE SERBIAN PATRIARCHS OF
MAKARIJE AND MAKSIM
Abstract: On the founders’ portraits in the Monastery of Pec Patriarchy,
the Serbian Patriarchs Makarije Sokolovic and Maksim Skopljanac, the sakkos of
golden brocade have been presented. Discovering the origin of the sakkos textile
and their connecting to the Turkish production has been determined by the analyze
of the floral motifs on them, and following the silk trade in the middle of XVI century.
Based on several examples of the painted Oriental textiles from XVI and XVII
century, the ways and reasons for their presentation have been analyzed.
