MARBLE BRECCIAS FROM DRAGACEVO
Abstract: Marble breccias belong to a highly qualitative in demand
Architectural-construction stone in the first line for its aesthetic and physical-
mechanical characteristics and it is used in cladding panels of different construction
structures. The name of a different consistency, it received from the Italian word
breccio, meaning broken. Later, it is bounded by completely natural processes, with
no man participation, into a compact rock. Marble breccia is an international term
for this type of stone found in the nature. This is also conditioned by its sufficient
compactness, suitable physical-mechanical characteristics, and from it, we can have
blocks of their volume of several cubic meters, in a form of a prism. Marble breccia is
built from the fragments of limestone of curved edges and of grey to dark grey color,
seldom of black one or completely white, in red to purple binder. As the consequence
of its content, decorative characteristics are high, having in mind the contrasts
among light ingredients and its dark red binder. It is used in construction of numerous
structures across ex-Yugoslavia, thanks to its wearing resistance and its hardness
to pressure. Its ledge is in the ownership of AD “Ukras” from Novi Pazar, and it
represents one of its most significant plants with huge reservoirs, and it is placed in the
municipality of Guca (Lucani) in Dragacevo. By itself, a marble breccia has given a
huge significance to modern technology of marble processing, that has accomplished
an unimaginable development in the entire world in recent years.
