JUBILEE PROCESSING OF STONE

In sixty years of work, “Ukras” from Novi Pazar produced, installed, and
traded various natural plates and stones that were important in architecture. As
science contributed to advancements in the marble industry, Ukras occupied an
increasingly important role in the construction industry.
Marble and granite production reached their peak in the early 1990s. De-
velopment continued until an economic crisis 2003, when Novi Pazar began func-
tioning in a gray economy. At this time, ceramic and granite plates were often im-
ported illegally. In July 2006, the Ukras company was privatized and thus began
a better period for what is now known as Ukras. The company added a high-rise
building, so today Ukras works on various buildings in places such as Montenegro
and Germany.
The market for natural architectural building stone (marble and granite
plates) in Serbia is huge and insatiable, and almost all companies in other cities
doing similar work ceased production. Similar cases can be seen in other countries
in the region.
