THE SERAGLIO OF SULTAN VALIDA MOSQUE IN SJENICA
The Summary of the Garden Research
Abstract: The Sultan Valida Mosque was built in the last decades of the
Ottoman Empire, within the administrative re-arragement of the western part of the
Empire. The immediate border and a possibility of an attack of the Empire directed
the movement of the administrative centres into military ones, to be defended
easily. The construction of Sultan Valida Mosque in Sjenica is a symbolic message
to give support to the changed system and homogenous and strong community. Its
size and grandiose speak on the previosly mentioned thesis.
The invention of a cobblestone garden from 1870, when a small town of
Sjenica did not have even cobbled streets, except for the main road, so-called
Bosnian Road, speaks on the importance the Ottoman administration gave to the
town itself and to the Mosque that was constructed from the very reason.
In the paper, the history of the Mosque construction is presented and works
at arranging the seraglio of the Sultan Valida Mosque.
